I reckon the cops wont close it down yet because they know whats going on there and they like to keep all the druggies ,droids and dickheads in one place so that they can pick them up whenever they want!

Happy happy times - wish I could go there tomorrow I think that after the Wild Man closed in the 70's it became Dick Turpin's.We had a trip there from our street about 12 of us and the theme was 18thcentury food and a troupe of actors delivered rude and raunchy verses and songs! In between we ate food from that era ,the food was terrible but we had a really good night. The week after we went the place got closed down by the enviromental health people! They found rat and mouse droppings all over the kitchen! It's a wonder we weren't all ill! It was still the 'Wild Man' into the 80s/early 90s - perhaps it reverted to its original name?

It wasn,t the Wild Man on York Road Tadcaster that became Dick Turpins but "The Forge" further up towards York near Askham Richard. It was indeed a filthy old place and they did the mediaeval banquets and the like. It closed and reopened under similar guises a couple of times in late 70,s early 80,s before being demolished and replaced with a Happy Eater.

The only excuse is that it was a long time ago!

I found this pic of it on the Aaghra website and it brought back some happy memories. Many thanks. It has been said that I'm a font of useless knowledge. It amazes me at times, the pointless trivia that sticks in my head casting aside more useful information... Ah, Happy Eater - the rival to Little Chef with the bulimic Pacman logo. You don't see those any more, do you? I think that one on the A64 is a fish and chip restaurant now.

I'm devastated - thats's two of Leeds' real gems closed in a couple of weeks - after the disastrous closing of the Duck and Drake. It just keeps getting worse.... Well - maybe not ! the shutters are off at the Highland and it looks like it's being decorated to reopen - that would be good.

I diverted to drive past Haddon Hall yesterday teatime, and it was a bit mystifying. There were "For Sale" signs but it seemed to be open in a strange way. There were just a couple of cars in the front, and on the steps about half a dozen chaps sitting and chatting but they didn't seem to have any drinks. Eerie ??
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Just walked by the Duck and Drake and the shutters were coming off! Not entirely sure what that means but it brightened my day

Is there something going on here? The shutters were taken down from the Shoulder of Mutton on Potternewton Lane a couple of weeks ago and now all the pub name signs have gone?Shutters coming down and repainting is not a sign that a pub will recover necessarily. The Skinners Arms lasted 4 months after re-opening and is now shut again. But at least if a pub does reopen then it may hopefully pull back enough of a crowd to continue. If a pub does reopen then it may well be worth taking some shots of the inside whilst there is an opportunity, just in case.
