I always remember this pub as being whitewashed - but now its been painted in colour. That's a new one on me.Is it Sam Smiths? If so I've been passed it. It is sam smith's - or at least it was in the 70's/80s/90s Yes it's still a Sammy Smith's pub, their bitter was never to my taste, much prefer The Regent's Tetley bitter, also I think The Regent is one of the few places that still sells Tetley mild. The Victoria Hotel (behind the Town Hall) still does Tetley Mild, although it was "off" last time I was in. The Templar has Tetleys Mild, and a nice drop!

The Star on Tong Road - evidently a much changed building. Like the Prospect and Engine (and many others) this is an 'end of terrace' pub (ie end of a block of terrace or back to back houses) that were once even more common.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Thanks for that - but I've already got it. It's on page 3 of the Leeds Lost pubs thread. Its getting so hard to find things on that massive thread I think I might do a post that indexes everything - might be useful?

The Gaping Goose at Garforth - great name for a pub. A former Melbourne house - some of the internal doors have glass panels with the names of the rooms on in 'Melbourne' s style - but it seems any actual melbourne signage / courtiers have gone.

Wonderful mosaic in the entrance of the Gaping Goose. Again this is evidence of 'Melbournes' - compare with the Mosaic of the Rose and Crown in Armley and there a similarities of style. For some reason(possibly due to damage repair???) it appears to say 'CAPING' rather than 'GAPING'

For comparison the Mosaic floor of the Rose and Crown - the borders are particularly similar to the Gaping Goose mosaic.. I'm drawn to the conclusion that they are of similar dateand manufacture.
