simonm wrote: Even though Iv'e slagged it off (and I'm allowed being an ex landlord) I give you, the Albion. It was originally two seperate premises, bot hshops back in the mid 1860's. Both began to sell bottled beer as out sales but one owner sold out to the other and it was knocked through and in the late 1860's becam the Pub we know today. You can still see one of the original corner entrances to the pub on the "upper" wall of Armley road side of the pub. According to some research that someone has had framed and put up in the Albion at some time(did you do it Simonm???) - the 'other' pub (left hand side ) was called the Fleece. Other pubs that were once nearby - the Oak on the other side of Armley Road that has already been mentioned. On the same side as the Albion there was a 'New Inn' - roughly where John Peters was and an 'Albert' on the same side further down the road towards Leeds. At the End of Armley Road [corner with wellington Road], on the opposite side was the White Horse.

there used to be one of the original Hornby card models above the bar in a Perspex box. It was spot on, down to the people at the bar! It's not there anymore, probably one of group owners knicked it thinking it might be worth a shed load! (don't get me started on Smith inns ffs)

I remember the white horse being demolishes and my dad being quite upset as it used to be his local boozer, living practically next door! No it wasn't me who did that, it was there when I got there. hopefully still is, as is a lisdt of all the "propper landlords" since it was born! It really is a lovely place, even after some major refurbishment inside fro ma previous tennant. Just a real shame that it has gone down in popularity.. I really hope that it doesn't go the same way as so many have recently!!

Yes it must have been you who mentioned that model in the pub before! I'll track one down eventually

I think the card model was made by a company called Build-Quick (or something similar), not Hornby. They sold them in Beatties (gone) and the Leeds Model Centre (also gone.) You might get one in Brittannia Models, if it's still there! Eastgate, wasn't it?The one in the real Albion used to be in the centre of a shelf, high behind the bar in a little clear plastic display case. They were quite complicated to build, if I remember right.CheersSi

No mention of the Town Hall Tavern yet? A Timothy Taylors pub in the heart of Leeds with the full range of their ales.Plus they do a cracking pie and peas with Wilsons pork pies. You can ignore the slightly odd decor with that combination being served. And what about the Victoria Hotel? A great selection of real ale and probably the most magnificent interior of any pub in Leeds.

I've remembered the company that made the Albion model. It's Superquick. They have a website, but the Albion is no longer listed in their catalogue, unfortunately. A model shop may still have one in stock, but they are getting thin on the ground also these days. I noticed at the weekend that the tiny Ilkley Model Centre has gone.CheersSi
