It has been mentioned on this thread before - but as you say finding it in 44 pages is a different matter. Here's a Leodis pic from the 60s. I can vaguely remember it - and had drinks outside -not sure if I ever went in though. Great shame, it was a really historic building - demolished to make way for a building that lasted less than 30 years !

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

Not exactly "Off the thread" but more of an accessory when reminiscing about the good old days - and they were. Just next to the King Charles, in King Charles Croft, was SHERWIN'S wonderful restaurant. Beautiful top quality home cooking and traditional waitresses in black dresses/white pinafores - three course lunches 2/6d (12.5p for the fortunate decimal youngsters among us) plus 3d for tea or coffee. As well as the lovely food it was always a really pleasnt experience as well - followed by a drink or two, or The Varieties, or The Theatre Royal, or the Empire, or the Grand or the Majestic or the Odeon or the Assembly Rooms (Plaza) or the Ritz or the Mecca or the Scala or the Tatler or the News Theatre - this breathless long sentence just sums up how much we really have lost of "old Leeds."
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

It was open a couple of weeks ago - anyone know anything? yes there was drapesy, believe it or not i have been trying to get permission to get in there to take a few shots of them for you(kind of like a surprise ) but apparently they've had there fair share of looters/vandals and trespassers so they wern't letting anyone in,so sorry to report my mission failed

CATWEAZLE WROTE :-"also has anyone mentioned that pub in the sort of Kirkstall Hill/Burley road area in the trees (going up towards Headingley) which has been derelict since at least the start of the millenium".....................................................................................................This would be the St. Annes in St. Annes Lane. Yes it has been derelict for many a year, and was frequently set alight by the idiots. It has been demolished fairly recently, after pressure from an exasperated Fire Service one fireman told me.

Well, thats that then.Don't they have to get permission to knock places down?Slightly further up York Road, it must be two years now since the Lion and Lamb was also demolished, supposedly to be redveloped as an Aldi (or similar budget supermarket) and nothing has happened...
