You probably realise we have a particular interest in this building - would like to get in touch later.Certainly have your hands full, know what the place was like when you acquired it - being listed must complicate some of the work(I'd like to change the thread title to more acurately reflect the building's original name and make future searches easier. Chameleon).

We've had a quick internet scan and found that Davenport and Sons were bought out in 1989 and then immediately sold off.The former owners bought the house in 1989 in a state of extreme disrepair having been used as a store house by the brewery....so that adds to the timeline we already know. Owned by the Davenport Brewery 1931 to 1989, ceased trading as a pub in mid 50s and then a storage house until the Spink's bought it in 1989 and turned it into a B&B.We're sat here having increasingly powerful daydreams about turning it back into a pub ha ha!

Make any changes you like : )We are about halfway through renovating the study and plan to put a bar in there...when we're finished (will take another 4-6 weeks) it would be great if some of the secretleeds gang and anyone they know who has an interest in the place could then come join us for a drink and a poke around.....if anyone knows a brewery who will do us a couple of barrels then we are all ears : )

I can't find the particular post but I seem to think that the name change happened when Davenports pulled out and Mansfields took over some time around 1980 / 81. The change of name coincided with an extensive refurbishment. I recall going in with my old man a few days after it had reopened. While the refurb looked good, the beer [electric beer in oversize glasses] was vile. I never went back and I don’t think the old fella did either. Just spotted this....so it was only empty in the last few years before the Spinks bought it and the sale in the late 80's was from Mansfields and not Davenports. This is really great, building up a timeline for the place..
