A pub that seemed to get overlooked in the huge' lost pubs thread surprisingly. here's a Leodis pic from December 1958. The pub was on the corner of Craven Gate and Dow Street.

there are 10 types of people in the world. Those that understand ternary, those that don't and those that think this a joke about the binary system.

And believe it or not here it is in 2008. Not easy to get a good pic as its surrounded by high metal railings. It appears to be unused at the moment although there is a Network rail sign - and a small sign that says it is called 'Craven Gate House'.According to a poster on Leodis it finally closed in February 2002 - I remember going in once or twice in the 80's - it had a good pint of handpulled tetleys then.

Another leodis pic showing the far side of the pub - with a great painted Tetley's sign. The owner was a Mr Cavalli - who also sold ice-cream apparently - that's one of his vans you can see.

The route of the trackbed used to run along the wall alongside the Midland Railway. It must have been disrupted recently a bit further up by the new bridge over the railway.
We wanted to make Leeds a better place for the future - but we're losing it. The tide is going out beneath our feet.

Yes the Miggy railway ran on from Whittakers staith on Hunslet Moor past the Craven gate alongside the midland before crossing on a bridge over the Midland before a short railed off and gated stretch that then halts at Jack Lane. After that past the pottery and onto the old staithes on Kidacre Street. When you head for dewsbury road passing the motorway entrances and turning around Parkfield Street, just before you go right over the MWay you will still see that short run of the Miggy Railway and the trackbed and railings. It is the original route and look across the road and you will see how it carried on from there past the posttery and gas works. The Miggy Railway as it is today is not an original route. It is the re-routing after the "old run" was abandoned (hence old run road follows the original track). The bit left at jack Lane is original - preservantion order time with a large statue of Matthew Murray and one of his locos to go on the site (I wish)......
