Me and a mate were watching and listening to a singer strain his vocal chords to a backing tape in an out-of-town pub last week and started reminiscing. It seemed that years ago you could expect to find a decent "turn" at lots of pubs and clubs throughout Leeds and beyond: nowadays they are more of a rarity. I know that many clubs (Lib/Lab/Con and others) still engage artistes but how many pubs still do.What with the demise of the Fforde Greene and other larger venues it got us thinking. Which is the largest traditional still-functioning pub in greater Leeds with regular live professional on-stage entertainment and also which is the smallest. Karaoke and floor singers excluded!! JD

The New Roscoe and The Duck and Drake must be the two live music venues in the City centre to see some great rock, blues and folky type bands I.M.O
