Pool Bank Quarries old tramway track.

Post by Leodian »

I had a walk on June 6 2018 in the Chevin Forest Park starting from near the Old Pool Bank junction with the A660. Very soon after the start, just after some homes, there is what seems to be an old track with the remains of a substantial stone wall. Out of interest I've looked at the Old-Maps UK website and found the track is almost certainly what remains of a tramway that ran from the nearby Pool Bank Quarries to eventually meet the NER Otley Branch by New Pool Bank road near Pool (in Wharfedale). I have attached 2 photos that I took at the track and a copy of the area covered in a 1908 1:2500 map in the Old-Maps UK website (the track is a little left of the location pin). The 1908 map shows the Pool Bank Quarries there (there were others elsewhere locally) but they are not there recorded in a 1921 map.
