Yes great stuff that Tabby. Do you know what amazes me... I can be pretty clued up about stuff that happened a 100+yr ago but when it comes to recent changes right under my nose i seem to miss them.. Like the Merrion subway... we were all happily going under there untill one day it closed & i never wondered what happened to it.. The staion subway too! We need to keep our eyes peeled for places that are endangeared species & get snapping!!

Oh yes!!!!! I've hit paydirt at good old leodis!Here's the Lemi in all its glory.This picture was taken in 1963, the plane is flying away from Leeds City centre almost exactly due south.Gelderd Road runs along the Right hand side, crossed by the Railway line.Lowfields Road runs off from Gelderd road - Leeds United's ground at Junction with Elland road - Holbeck Cricket clubs ground is on the opposite corner of Lowfields road,next to New Peacock pub, Greyhound stadium above on Elland Road. The road just lower(i.e north) than Elland Road, also joining Gelderd Road is Brown Lane. Low Beck (Hol Beck) is the dark line meandering south from Brown Lane.On the other side of the railway line, towards bottom of right of picture is an odd shaped piece of open land with a sharp 'triangle' at the top at the end of the terraced streets (Danubes and Oswalds) that run off from Gelderd Road, which is.........wait for it.......The Lemi!!!!

Nice find Drapesy!Here's a photo from Leodis of an embankment in the area. Description from Leodis is "Wooden fences to left and right of a passageway leading to an underground subway underneath the Leeds, London, Midland and Scottish railway bridge on Gelderd Road. Construction work looks to be going on in the yard at the other end of the tunnel. Above the subway connecting Brown Lane and Oswald Grove is a grass embankment."

De ja vue. Great find Drapsey.. The Leeds Gentlemans exploration Society found these in the undergrowth.. 50 years after every thing got flattened.. Extremely hard place to get to these days. No one comes here now!!

Phill_d wrote: De ja vue That's quite spooky Phill - you were standing in almost exactly the same spot as the original photographer!!! You can work out where this is on the Aerial pic - the path leads down from Brown Lane to the right, under the railway.
