Has anyone come across a place call Glaham in Yorkshire? It could have been misspelt in the 1851 Census, Manchester, Lanc for William Power who was residing in a Lodging House in Manchester with his wife Mary. It could be Glanhan Cheers Yvonne

I notice that one of the locations seems to be spelt 'Slowitt', which is how the name Slaithwaite could be heard in local dialect and so recorded as Slowitt. If there was a problem with dialect I wonder if Glaham could be what somewhere may have sounded like, though I've no idea where if it is! In view of the locations I wonder if it might be in the Huddersfield general area, as another location given might be Bradley.

Its not Oldham is it? The "d", third letter, looks like the down stroke is missing .Just a thought.

I was of the same opinion.
Part of Oldham is in fact in Yorkshire, which of course those from Lancashire don't approve.
