Y=FULLEDIT Quebec Street opened in 1872 and was named in memory of General Wolfe who captured Quebec in Canada in 1759 but was killed in the Battle Plains of Abraham.

A very good question - just thinking quickly about it I can't see any Canadian influence anywhere in the immediate vicinity. On a happy note though, the scaffolding around the Majestic now reveals a most wonderful restoration of the stonework to its 1920s splendour - those responsible for the terrible state and impending doom of the Odeon in Bradford PLEASE take note of what can be achieved.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

It may be a reference to the Battle of Quebec in 1759 when we took on the French.Doesn't Toronto Street still run off Quebec Street as well?JD

Just a bit of trivia - we pronounce Quebec - "Kweebec", over there the French Canadians pronounce it "Kaybec", and they don't like the Brits very much.
Daft I call it - What's for tea Ma?
