For an opener, hats off to billy the buffalo for reminding me of the joys of the British Pathe resource

https://www.britishpathe.com/thumbnails.php?id=61218 It is fantastic ...... draglines, all sorts of early designs of dozer, face shovels and dumptrucks, plus a fairly chunky dragline.All through my childhood I cannot remember a time when there wasn't some opencasting going on around Temple Newsam. I can vaguely remember in the early 70's when you went up the drive from Whitkirk to Temple Newsam House the woods on the left were dominated by a huge overburden dump somewhere on Swillington Common (plus at school you knew lunch time was only minutes away when the blast went off!)

I wanted to send them some links to stuff. It's easier to click on an e mail link than type everything in from a letter. still i might have to write to them... thanks anyway
