not sure think it was about 10 years ago, a plane overshot the runway and landed in a field on scotland lane. the pilot misunderstood the tower and landed on the wrong part of the runway.what year would this have been, i think it was a 737.an amazing thing to see, the tail was up in the air.would be nice to see if anyone has a photo of this

I believe it were a Lockheed Tristar, operated by British Airways, It would have been mid eighties, not sure exactly which year tho!

There was one more recently than that though, I think it was a British Midland flight.Came in during a thunder storm and caught a massive up draft which carried him beyond his safe breaking point ending up with him skidding off the end of the runway.the nose pitched in and it stuck its tail up, but not as high as that one in the pic - now that is a bad landing, he's in the tarn isn't he ??

It was indeed a Lockheed Tristar and the incident took place on 27 May 1985 (thanks to the very wonderful and totally recommended ‘airliners.net’ site for this information and the photo). I can recall the irritation of the players on the golf course as we walked across the fairway to get a closer look at it. According to ‘airliners’, an Airbus A320 also went onto the grass in 2005, but the nose wheel didn’t break off that time, so it’s not as interesting a picture!
