Returning to the Elland Rd P+R, it started today so you can imagine my surprise when I discovered that the "bus lane gate" at the end of the M621 still isn't anywhere near finished (see pic - apologies for the quality, it's off my dashcam).Another fine example of the council's inability to organise a drinking session in a brewery...I can't imagine the hundreds flocking to use it will have been impressed at having to joining the queue off the motorway whilst sat on a hot and stuffy bus this morning? Finally - read this and weep / laugh: http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... -1-6689810

The ELL Road P+R makes sense - straight off the motorway and a direct route to the city centre along a bus lane equipped dual carriageway. They need to raise the speed limit though.Stourton and Lawnswood could make sense with the right connectivity (and no need for the follybus). Add one at York Road near Scholes (as has been in the transport strategy since the 80's) with a fast limited stop service. The King Lane one is in the wrong place and will never fully take off while its reliant on standard stopping buses taking 30 minutes plus to get people into Leeds. And, as most of us predicted, the Elland Road one is too close to the city centre and too expensive. Not least of all to us council tax payers who've got a bill for nearly £3 million to tarmac a bit of land, plus the ongoing cost of all those empty buses...

About 25 cars yesterday, naturally the buses during the day were empty. Can see the buses being utilised for something else outside rush hour times at this rate.

A couple of updatesThe Bus Lane that continues from the Jack Lane filter lane of the M621 offslip is now in operation (has been for about a week). At approximately 7.45 this morning I saw one of the Leeds bound buses from the above location. It had 4 or maximum 5 passengers on a 70 seat double decker. The bus I was on then caught it again at the Bewley's Hotel stops as it had stopped to let a passenger alight. Note that unless there has been a change already this isn't one of the, only, two designated drop of points for the inbound service. It does actually make some sense to include this stop and the driver was probably showing common sense that no doubt would have voided the Operator's Public Liability Insurance had they needed to make a claim.

Also forgot to add. The most prevalent exterior bus advertising I have seen for the P&R is on Arriva buses. Not just any Arriva buses though. Mainly on Arriva's new flagship little buses operating from the Wakefield Depot and predominantly for use on tight estates and therefore not really getting anywhere near central Leeds except the occasional ones with a terminus at the bus station and highly unlikely to be seen by drivers who may be tempted by the P&R.
