The YEP today has an article on page 11 of a house sale in Spofforth (part of Leeds) that includes a 35ft high railway viaduct in the backgarden! The newspaper report has more images but this is a link to the online report: http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... 1-5333303I have no interest in the sale but thought the report may be of interest (particularly to SL railway enthusiasts). Please accept my apologies if I should not be posting information that relates to a commercial sale and if so a mod is welcome to delete this thread.PS. I did not know that Spofforth is part of Leeds. Edit added around 20:45 on Jan 21st. On checking I've found that (as I thought it would be) that Spofforth comes under Harrogate and not Leeds that the YEP report states.

Yes I saw that Leo, an interesting garden feature isn't it?They're are quite a lot of bridges and viaducts still standing on that line. I photographed this part demolished one a few years ago.http://www.flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/4609852233/The landowner has converted one of the arches into a garage. The small viaduct looks rather odd stood on it's own like that.

Those are great photos Phill of a fascinating remainder of the old railway line.

It makes you wonder who is responsible for the upkeep of the viaduct. If it's the property owner it could be a massive expense (particularly if they've owned it for 30 years and done nowt with it...)That said, it could be interesting if they ever re-open the line....or carry out the much talked about conversion to a cycle / footpath!

The owners.http://www.brbr.co.uk/structuresAs in all rail infrastructure used' or disused until such a time it is sold on. I think with tunnels they hold responsibility forever.

Having had doubts that Spofforth is under the control of Leeds as stated in the YEP report (see my now edited post that started this thread) I have just done some checking and it seems that Spofforth comes under the control of Harrogate. Apologies therefore that this thread does not directly relate to Leeds. It's most unlike the YEP to be wrong!
