Your first picture looks like Swinegate alongside the tram depot, looking under the City Station railway bridge towards the Scarborough Hotel Jogon

A great photo to remind us how it was, your photographer would have been stood near the part of the tram shed with scaffold erected.

http://goo.gl/maps/Bf3u At the risk of being horribly wrong, the bus is in Yorkshire Rider colours, which makes it post deregulation - so 1986 onwards? That is supported by one of the cars - just behind the blue Escort estate car is what appears to be a Mk IV Escort waiting to pull out of the junction - which again makes it 1986 or later. Finally having consulted a calendar, it seems that Saturday 9th September (as advertised for the flea market) would make this 1989!
