Can anyone help with pinpointing the year that traffic lights were installed at various locations? We take them for granted now of course but they haven't always been there.I'm interested in particular with the ones at:    (i) Burley Road/Cardigan Road junction.    (ii) Shaw Lane/Otley Road junction.I can remember them both being Give Way junctions back in the 60s and 70s but nothing more accurate. Shaw Lane junction had, I think, occasional help from a bobby on point duty but I might be thinking of somewhere else. JD

Hi,     At a guess the Burley rd lights would have being signaled in the 60's sometime. I can remember the bobby on point duty during peak time's. Maybe early 60's at that. Our family GP's where Barrert and Platt who where on Burley rd on the right just past the lights right hand side city bound. Later they moved to Cardigan rd, just up on the left.Otley Rd was a bit further away from our house, but as far as I can remember the lights where always there.

Thanks Yorkie. I was on the phone to a friend in Leeds last night. He agrees that the Burley/Cardigan lights were installed about 1974 as well.I'm sure the Shaw Lane ones weren't there when the bus took me past the junction on my way to school in 1962/63-ish though. JD

We were hit from behind three times at Shaw lane lights ( twice by the same guy) when i was about 6 yrs old. This would make it around 1972 and the lights were there then
