While I was in City Square today my mind wandered (it never gets very far though ). There used to be a small bus information kiosk near to the Queens Hotel. I thought the kiosk was removed only a 2 or 3 years back but I would not be surprised if it was longer ago than that. Does anyone recall when it was removed?

I couldn't say exactly when it was removed, but I'm fairly certain it was a lot more than 2 or 3 years ago.How long has the actual bus stop outside the Queens been gone? I wouldn't be surprised if the kiosk went well before the bus stop did.

Cheers Phill and ravey. The photo posted by Phill seems to show that the kiosk in at least 1966 was near to what is now the City Square access to the train station, so it must have been moved further along City Square at some point. I suspect you are right ravey in that it was removed longer ago than the 2 or 3 years I had wondered. It is surprising just how wrong a feeling of the date of things can be much longer ago than thought.

Cant recall seeing the kiosk in the Square after the late 70s, I could be wrong though. I am sure some of the point inspectors on here will remember.

That has got me worried! I thought I may be a year or two out but not at least 30 years! If my recollection is right ("if" being the operative word ) the small bus information kiosk was at about where New Station Street joins City Square.

http://tinyurl.com/83rku3n Cheers Phill. I wonder when it was removed so that the nearest Metro information kiosk was that on New Market Street (the Tourist Information centre in the train station does however also provide local bus timetables).PS. Good photo but I don't recall buses stopping there, probably because I never used any that did!
