Being a bit of a devils advocate in the subject as I am all in favour of enforcing the bus lanes and bus boxes but can see motorists groups jumping on the revenue bandwagonhttp://newsfeed.leedsvirtualnewsroom.co.uk/2011/08/cameras-to-give-close-up-of-bus-lane.html

What about cars parking in the cycle lanes.

Or, even, cyclists on pavements ?But , a little more to the point, Reading council has used cameras to enforce buslanes for a while. they also have cctv on the buses themselves, which can be used.

Given it seems you can get away with parking in a bus lane outside the City Centre every day for about a month before you get a ticket, it seems the "zero enforcement" policy elsewhere is applied.The Chapeltown Rd cycle lane seems to be afforded the same level of enforcement, so plenty of bikes are observed avoiding parked cars as I journey home.As for in the centre, white car with black bonnet and boot seems to be the way to avoid it. Just park anywhere, bus stops are fair game, just not anywhere marked "Taxi Rank" and don't worry about holding up the traffic. They're only buses.

To be fair, the only place you stand a realistic chance of getting a ticket in the city centre is if you overstay your time in a marked pay and display parking bay.I pick mrs ravey up from work in the "business quarter" and the number of parking attendants circling around the streets around Park Square and Park Place all day has to be seen to be believed. Park blocking one lane on Neville Street, or the Loop and you can stay there all day with impunity, no matter how much chaos you are causing. Similarly by the Post Office at the side of the market is a bottle neck most evenings for exactly the same reason.So, in that respect I think a bit more enforcement in the city centre is to be welcomed.

And there seems to be a growing number of official 24hr ranks developing on sections of the otherwise yellow-lined city loop road. Brilliant.

Apparently the fake notices are being replaced with genuine fines from today.

I agree with bus lane cameras - If drivers successfully pass their driving test, they should know the Highway Code and the law. It's not as if you can't see a bus lane - There is clear signage and is indicated by a redish tarmac with a bold line. However, there are bus lanes that have completely faded that I hope won't be controlled - One is on Burmantofts Street going towards town/York Road and another awful one is coming into town (just around the corner in fact) from York Road just after Plaid Row.Those stupid taxi ranks are another bug bear of mine. I wonder who thought of putting them at the end of Merrion Street on that busy corner.....it's bad enough people being in the completely wrong lane for the turn!
