WHERE EXACTLY WAS PENDA'S WAY STATION ??

While looking up the Leeds - Wetherby line the other day on behalf of a friend, I was quite amazed to find that there was a station at Penda's Way - immediately after Crossgates and before Scholes. Are there any traces of it left I wonder ?? - presumably somewhere near the bridge which used to cross Barwick Road in the region of John Smeaton School.

A narrow footpath ran to it from Pendas Way. It was inbetween 134 and 136 Pendas Way

chameleon wrote: The path is still there I think Phill. I had a look on Street view. It looks like the shared drive has taken over the station footpath now. There is another footpath still there, but that was higher up than the station. You can see the two footpaths on old maps.

Sadly I never used the Crossgates to Wetherby railway. I do though recall seeing the line branching off near Crossgates station. Part of the line is a walking track that I use near Bardsey. The deep cutting with the superb Victorian bridge that the Scarcroft to Thorner road crosses over is well worth a visit (if not too wet, but it usually is!).

and look at the width of those platforms! Good old elf and safety wouldn't allow that these days!

I would say the "new" stations at the likes of Outwood and Bramley have platforms of very similar width and construction to the one illustrated. I say "new" because they are around 30 years old.

Notice the luggage trolley visible in the pics? That suggests that the station was staffed, rather than just being an unmanned halt.If so it would appear to have been a steady number given the handful of stopping trains each day.You have to wonder where any luggage was actually taken on that trolley though..?
