Many thanks for this post Phil.The area around Hunslet Engine Company was my stomping ground when i was a kid.If you look at the map of the area you can see were i lived in Ashley Street just off Pearson Street.We had factorys on all sides i can remember when the buildings were in a lot better condition than they are now my mum used to work in the Hunslet Engine Company canteen on nights.The building now called California House was a lot bigger it had two more building the same size joined on to it, there is now a carpet warehouse on the site. If you look at the apex of the old building you can still see a wooden vent we used to throw tennis balls up at this untill they lodged in between the slats.The other two buildings had the same vents.
