This coming Saturday marks the 50th anniversary of the closure of our once mighty tramway network. Does anyone know of any events to mark the sad demise of our very own, “gleaming galleons of the streets”?

As far as I know it is being totally ignored by LCC.I do know that a respected member of a Leeds based transport group and Crich Tramway Museum, made enquiries at the new city museum if anything was being proposed to mark the occasion, he was underwhelmed by the response.

A plan for trolley buses has been submitted. I suppose that's a kick in the teeth. The more I learn about the tram network the more I'm shocked at its demise.

I’M amazed that there is nothing being staged locally. Surely someone from the L.T.H.S will be laying a wreath around Kirkgate or something?Research on the internet would suggest that the nearest event will be taking place at the Heaton Park Tramway in of all places Manchester. So it looks like a trip over the Pennines on Sunday.

True enough a Wreath would not be correct that close to Remembrance Sunday.

I'll buy my poppy under the Christmas tree.
