It appears that Henry Fowler was the son of a Cabinet Maker from Evesham so it would seem unlikely that he had anything to do with Fowlers of Leeds.

It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!

As a kid in Leeds we always called road rollers steam rollers, even though by the 50's they were diesels. Anyway this is a genuine LCC steam roller bearing the Leeds coat of arms pictured outside a pub in Cheshire. A close up of the coat of arms ps Its a Fowler steam roller built in 1923 and called Navigator Fowlers were of course based where Costco is now - there is a plaque by the entrance commemorating it. And if you look at the buidlings opposite Costco you'll see more evidence of Leeds great engineering past.I've got a couple of pics somewhere of some more Fowler traction engines, taken a couple fo years ago at Nostell Priory. I'll dig them out and post them on the Secret Leeds group on flickr when I have a minutes. More Fowler memorabilia for sale at Llandudno Traction Fair on Bank Holiday Monday.

Here's a pic that I managed to dig up of the old railway lines and a steam engine in Hunslet - somewhere south of Dewsbury Rd if I remember correctly - c 1971...

If you visit the "Steam Spectacular" at Temple Newsam tomorrow (Monday 25th) there are several "Fowlers" to be seen, both Traction Engines and Steam Rollers and also one Traction Engine from the so far forgotten (I think) J & H McLaren of Hunslet.
