Newbie here.I remember it being there when I was a kid & my dad used to take me up there every so often & we'd park up on the waste-ground off Bayton LaneUnless I'm not using the right combination of search words, I can't find anything on the net about itI took my daughter up there about 2 years ago, & there was a constant visitation by airport security/Police to check out the vehicles parked there - especially those closest to the perimeter fencingIt appears to me that the plane has been removed, or has the runway layout been altered/extended?Was it the result of an accident, or simply an old carcass 'dumped' there for the airport fire-crews to practice on?

Surely a perimeter fence denotes the perimeter and closenes to is should not be a concern of anyone? Climbing over it or cutting it then fair do's i suppose.I'd love to see a picture of this old plane if anyone can find one. I've takent he kids op tot he waste ground, there was always a snack van there and the whole place had the feel of an old BMX track.

IIRC it was to practice on. I suppose now it would be called a Real Time Total Space Simulator. Don't know when it got moved though.

I presume that it's had a long history as a motor-cycle area, plus the local kids would have used it for BMXs/MTBs

Memory might be a bit fuzzy, but I remember being taken to Yeadon a few times to view a Lockheed Tristar that was always parked up there.

You are probably right RichT but as these fellas drove up in some Land Rovers it's not reallly the same thing. You can get much closer to an airport by driving up front than nosing through the fence.Mind you, why hang about the fence when there is a better view up the hill?

Just looking around on Live Search Maps - I see the waste ground off Bayton Lane, next to the golf course - is that were you mean?It is well fenced off from the airport but hardly secure in todays terms is it? Interstingly there is what could be a security vehicle on the airport side of the fence! No sign of an aircraft where I've looked but, there is a strange fenced-off area to the right of the access road into the waste ground, a couple of poles/small masts and what I thought could be some kind of bunker? Only guessing, difficult to tell what it is - anyone know? (Looking again from another angle, seems more like a square of boring asphalt

There was definately an old plane there many years ago('70s) which they used to set on fire for training purposes.

As you pull into the "Bomb Hole" off Bayton lane, immediatley to your right is a Yorkshire Water service resevoir. It has recently had a lot of work done on it, and all the mud/fencing has just been tidied up.The aircraft in the woods was ( I think) either a Hawker Sidley 748 or possibly even part of an old Bristol, I can see it in my minds eye, just can't think of the model. It was there until the late 70s, and may have been there in 84' when i was on a YTS scheme at what was " Northair" ( Now Multiflight).I park up at the bomb hole with my 4 year old to watch the planes and am an owner and a massive Landrover fan myself but having seen some of the off road driving from 4 X 4 owners and quad / scrambler bikes, it's only a matter of time before someone is injured or killed up there then it will get fenced off and we will lose it.
