I was slightly surprised that nobody mentioned the return of Steam hauled trains through Leeds this week. These were Specials operating : York-Harrogate-Leeds- York-Scarborough in the morning and in reverse in the evening. They ran from Monday to Thursday inclusive and were hauled by Ex Southern Region Pacific No 34067 "Tangmere" which kept very well to the schedule despite some very poor weather on at least two days.

The Scarborough Spa Express is set to return during the summer holidays too.Of course it could be argued that there are steam powered trains through Leeds everyday...It's just the steam is produced at places like Drax and Ferrybridge and the power is transmitted to the train through wires...

If I succeed there will be a photo of the train passing Garforth at speed yesterday evening

Ooh I love steam, me. I saw Tangmere last year at the NRM along with the skellington of 4472 Flying Scotsman, midway through its marathon overhaul. Union of South Africa was in my area in the last week or so but I didn't see it.

When this:http://www.a1steam.com/runs on the main line steam will have returned - in spades (or given the context should that be shovels )
