The surplus buses, 98 of them, which were brand new for the Olympics are already here and in use at Hunslet Park garage - for those remotely interested and I am not these days their fleet numbers are 36181 - 36278.First (and Wrights of Ballymena) are no doubt highly embarrassed at the complete failure of the barmy "ftr streetcar" farce - the Public are not as gullible as all that and most folks know that a streetcar is an American tram. Still standing at an obscene amount "on the books" at only five years old these monstrous creations will be wanted by no-one else - and to think they were going to transform the "future" of urban transport in the United Kingdom
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Ah well you see Cardiarms, many members of the Public, including me, are terrified of flying with a pilot and will either go by train or catch a BUS !!

It's ok, the travelling waiter, sorry I mean conductor, he can get everyone to bounce their backs against the seat in unison to help gain a bit of traction whilst serving hot Bovril. The pilot from his cockpit, can inform passengers via the intercom of adverse weather conditions ahead ha ha

So the integration has died! I understand that one aicraft at a time is allowed into Bradford Interchange to unload/load - I believe that the electronic arrival screens have been reprogrammed to show, after the plane leaves the bottom of Leeds Road, "ON FINAL APPROACH."

Do we get "seatbelts on" light warnings when approaching a bumpy stretch or "doors to automatic" announcements after boarding ? lolJust so long as you don't get the stern "brace, brace, brace" announcement eh ?

These people who come up with such marketing nonsense get paid far too much money, and have too much time on their hands.. If they hadn't tried dress a bus, driver, and conductor into some magical mode of amazing transport, they wouldn't face so much deserved cynical ridicule. You can change a name of a pub, but it will always be called the name of the original boozer, a bin man will always be a bin man, not a waste management and disposal technician. A receptionist will always be a receptionist, not a welcoming agent and telephone intermediary! What a load of codswallop nonsense, especially if your from Yorkshire!

Cardiarms wrote: Yes it started as the Leeds Playhouse and became the West Yorkshire Playhouse when the new theatre was built on Quarry Hill, I think because the old West Yorkshire Met Council provided the funding. There's a history and a list of old productions at the back of this pdf but none seem to match what is on the advert:http://www.leeds.ac.uk/library/spcoll/h ... yhouse.pdf The only play I can think of which includes the letters "cchio" (which is what is shown on the bus, with the first part of the word obscured) is Pinocchio. However, that doesn't appear in the list of Leeds Playhouse productions shown in your link!To follow up other comments on this thread, the "comet" is a square cutout placed on the original photo, particularly noticeable if you look at the photo at original size in Flickr.

You beat me to it Phil. For some strange reason these office bod marketing types think that by rebranding peoples job titles that somehow they can convince the public that they will be using some futuristic and wildly improved public transport system. What these people (who Clint Eastwood graphically describes in the film Heatbreak Ridge as something i cant even mention with asterisks, except to say that the first word is "Cluster") fail to grasp is that Joe Bloggs in the street likes a bus driver, and wants a condutor on their bus. This isnt First Class air travel with Emirates airlines, its a chuffing long bus thats going to struggle in difficult traffic and weather conditions.I welcome conductors,it represents additional safety to passengers and a quicker journey, but please please please marketing bods, dont try and dress them up.They are more than adequate as they are and frankly not only is it pretentious but also condescending to the public in general.
Don't get me started!!My Flickr photos-http://www.flickr.com/photos/cnosni/Secret Leeds [email protected]
