When did they stop using them old open back buses? I seem to remember one or two knocking about in the late 70s early 80s when i were a kid! think they were green(?) Maybe they were driver training units tho'.

This http://flickr.com/photos/phill_dvsn/1159371039/ was the last back loader to run in service Rangie but your right they were used as driver training units after that, There's some links to the buses still in service in my L.C.T sets! Yes i've seen some filling in this role maybe as late as 1989 for a short while. Always around the Torre road area! there even some of the old backloaders still dumped out of sight at seacroft garage untill 1982 the last time i looked in!

Yes i remember them running as a little lad! I used to love them, I remember the new Atlanteans slowly arrive & put these busses out of action, I used to hate when they turned up in there place. I also hated the new W.Y.P.T.E green & cream livery! My bus route was the 67 Monkswood-Bus station run & i'd love to know when they last worked this route!

I used to like the old red West Yorkshire buses! Dunno what make they were! They didn't seem to run any Atlanteans! And they never turned up on time! The joke was "What's the difference between Giraffes and West Yorkshire buses? There's no F in (F'ing) West Yorkshire buses" lol! Atlanteans were already well established on 'METRO' buses, were reliable then! Bleedin' privatisation!

West Yorkshire Buses were almost exclusively "Bristol" chassis with bodywork by Eastern Counties of Lowestoft. They were a nationalised company in all but name and very similar buses could be seen in many parts of the country. I can dimly remember WY buses with the rear staircase open never mind the back platform!! and I am not that old. If you really want to know something about Leeds Transport there are now four volumes of History published by the Leeds Transport Historical Society. Vols 1 to 3 are certainly available in Leeds libraries , Vol 4 is very new and goes up to 1974.

No Monkswood was the bus terminus, The buses were allocated nearby to the Seacroft depot thats still there used by the council these days on Limewood (Approach i think)
