In the images in the newspaper article there are two small photos taken at the Leeds Central Station. One is an outside shot taken in August 1967 and the other an inside the station one taken in September 1937 of "The West Riding Limited, the new LNER streamlined train" (what I knew as a 'Streaker' when I was a child train spotter).

I can't see how anything really fits from the description.I would have to say with it being the London high speed rail it would suggest sending those trains over the viaduct again.. I do believe the viaduct was originally taken out of service because it caused congestion at the station. The London bound trains left from platform 5 (nearest the concourse) And as you know being a driver it would stop a lot of trains from coming into, and leaving the station while the London train was pathed across the point work to gain the viaduct line. I can only think of this area of land here where a new station could be built.http://goo.gl/maps/f6vDYWhich also leads to this defunct part of the station herehttp://goo.gl/maps/BTfllAnd that wouldn't be hard to link to via an airport style walkway to this new station entrance really     You are right Phil with regards a walkway, but, the question is,is the YEP correct.I think that they will have to somehow utilise existing lines for a short distance to get to the HS lines, and to me the best option, given that the South Yorkshire station is supposed to be at Meadowhall, would suggest the Midland lines, perhaps to Stourtom, with the HS lines branching off there.BTW the electric service on the viaduct was done every morning for the 07:20 Pullman, this was due to the need to get the set off Evil Hill on time but not having to take up a platform. My managers told me the viaduct was out of use due to infrastructure problems, which i find hard to believe given the way the Victorians built these things.Lets see tomoz

Birmingham is specifically cited as needing a totally new station: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High_Speed ... entreWhile I can see that attraction of integrating a new HS line into the existing station for all manner of reasons, it's got to be considered unlikely, given the dearth of room to expand the station. There is also the consideration that one day, when pigs fly and cows produce chocolate milk, that the HS line will be extended north from Leeds to eventually reach Edinburgh via Middlesborough and Newcastle- again a massive problem from the existing station, which would require flattening a huge amount of the city centre to build that extension. I think that there will be a utilisation of existing classic lines Ravey,if only to a small degree.

The station will front onto Victoria Road by the Asda offices and it looks like the walkway will use the new entrance.Leeds (New Lane)A new station in central Leeds, alongside the South Bank area of the city centre. This would be joined to the existing station via a dedicated pedestrian link, making it just a short walk between the two. This transfer time could be further reduced by the introduction of moving walkways. Leeds station offers connections to a number of regional rail destinations such as Bradford, Halifax and Castleford, as well as to the city’s extensive bus network. There would be immediate access to this station from the M621 (Junction 3), providing connections with the city’s ring roads and regional motorways. There would also be ample car parking provided at the southern entrance for those not arriving on foot or by public transport.Detailed maps and descriptions of the proposed routes are available on the Department for Transport websitehttps://www.gov.uk/government/uploads/system/up ... 22_3-0.pdf

There's a lot of demolition, including the two gas holders on Kidacre Street. Onwards and upwards though.

I can understand why they want to get as close to City Station as possible, but wonder how much cheaper using the Crown Point site would be. Also, what grandiose plans will the council develop over the next 15 years and how this will affect current thinking..
