Just found a really funny comment on this L.C.C story in the Y.E.P today.http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... 566OWNMIND posts.Under this council leadership we are stagnating at best and slipping backward at worse. Giving this bunch of inept clowns yet more financial autonomy is a recipe for further cuckoo ideas like the trolley bus. Give a small child a £100 in Toys R Us and you get the idea of what this lot would do with your extra millions. ................................................I couldn't have put it better myself

Leeds Civic TrustTHE TRUTH ABOUT THE LEEDS TROLLEYBUS PROJECT by Metro Chairman Councillor James Lewis, a public meeting at HEART, Bennett Road, Headingley LS6 3HN. Date: Wednesday 5th June, 7.30 to 9pm. A chance to dispel some of the myths and mis-information about the scheme. Hot drinks available.

And nothing but the truth?Or just what he wants you to believe? His Twitter profile states: James Lewis @JamesLewisLab Northern, Labour activist, Councillor for Kippax & Methley ward Leeds City Council, Chair Metro /West Yorkshire Transport Authority, LUFC season ticket. So, hardly the unbiased opinion he might like you to think he's going to give then, is it?Plus he also seems to represent the same ward on the council as Keith Wakefield, leader of the council and another Folly Bus Evangalist.Mind you, without any hint of irony, his twitter feed also shows what he's been listening to lately: https://twitter.com/JamesLewisLab/statu ... 3/photo/1I need say no more...

In a report on page 11 of the Yorkshire Evening Post (YEP) of June 13 2013 about the New Generation Transport (NGT) scheme it states business leaders have backed the scheme and that "New plans for the Leeds trolleybus have been unveiled...The single biggest change to the project will see the creation of a public transport only 'corridor' running from the Parkinson Steps at Leeds University into the city centre. A dedicated stop will also be built to serve the Leeds Arena at the top of Cookridge Street". This is a link to the short online version of the report in the YEP website:- http://www.yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk/n ... -5762773If the scheme goes ahead, as does now seem likely, one thing I don't understand is why the plan is to have a route from Holt Park to City Square and one from Stourton to City Square. Why not have one route?

I just think this scheme is more 3 Stoogies than some clever policy maker. Just how is traffic supposed to travel across the city centre to Headingley? Transport corridor, more blind alley. Now in the YEP 13/6/13 there is also a report that street lighting will be switched off to save money. Now I seem to remember that the last gas lamps were turned off about the 1970's. So if LCC are unable to afford the leccy bill for the lights, how will they cope with a folley bus leccy bill?Folleybus is DC probably 1000V. That's a rectification from the National Grid AC... So who'll foot the leccy bill when the price rises? Yes you and me in council tax and the passengers in fares. A little overlooked point when the trams were running. They were powered locally, Kirkstall and Stourton and demand wasn't as high so it could be run cheaply with local coal. Now leccy is going to cost a fortune to run 24/7 over miles of twin overhead lines... And it WILL happen because your councillor knows best. Until 2014 when they are unelected..
