But Blakey, it's just like being on a bus ;-)And by the sound of this thread, the aircraft are a damn sight smoother to ride than the newer types of bus!I'll send you an email rather than derail this thread any further! Hello Patexpat, I remember both the drivers you mention.I think Mick had to retire as he had a very serious back problem. He was a nice lad. The other chap I only vaguely can recall I'm afraid.i worked out of bramley for 20yrs starting in 1973 and taking early retirement in 1973.

LCT buses operated without nearside driving mirrors until 1958. Having driven many HGVs myself, I can't imagine driving and manoeuvring while being completely unsighted down one side. How on earth did you manage? How did you know that passengers were safely on or off, or none running to try and jump aboard? And how did garage shunters manage all that beautiful precision parking? Were you pleased to have the extra mirror - LCT seems to have been a bit late fitting them? Bradford had had them for years by then.

I appear on looking at my last post to have made an error in my retirement date. I started in 1973 and retired in 1993. I some times wish I could have kept on going but I was retired on health grounds.. As for parking a bus on the lines in the garage,no problem! you always parked with the off-side wheels on the white line.No n/s mirror required! I never drove a bus that had less than 2 mirrors. Not that the N/S mirror was much use on a back loader. The damn thing was so small and so far away you couldn't see much in it anyway!

I made the wrong assumption from your post about the years worked, and thought it was 1953 - 1973. Don't know why. Thanks for your response though.
