All areas from Stourton into town are extremely well served by bus routes at present as all Cas, Ponte, Wakefield and Rothwell services run though here, the traffic is much calmer than it was due tot he Cross Green link road being opened and no-one will drive from further out to Stourton to get on a tram as they could do that now with buses and park fro free on a side street but don't.If someone can tell me any circumstance where someone would use it then I'm all ears. Unless all buses are scrapped or turned back at Thwaite Gate I suppose. That just screams "pay twice" to me. Exactly - you get into your car in (for example) Wakefield, drive towards Leeds, with your choice of ambient temperature, music and travelling companions, then park up when just 10 minutes away from your destination to go stand in a queue in the rain to wait for an electrified buses to take you the last couple of miles, at extra cost, while you sit next to someone with swine flu and a very loud MP3 player, then face another 10 minutes walk across town in the rain as this new service doesn't stop near your office, rather than park a couple of minutes walk from your desired location. Then repeat it all again on the way home.Sounds like a plan to me! Nail on head mate. It's ridiculous. Anyone who wants to get to Leeds from Hunslet today has the choice of about 20 buses an hour and no one lives in Stourton. I'd rather a flash circular tram that linked points in the city like for instance:Market / Bus station, Clarence Dock, Crown Point, Bridgewater, Hilton, Granary Wharf / Train Station, Whitehall Road, Wellington Street, Park Square, Town Hall, New Arena, Briggate, Eastgate Development, Quarry Hill. Now that would be flagship, it would make accessible all the important disctricts and it would encourage investment. Tram every 2 minutes. Hop on and hop off. And make it free so First or Arriva would not be interested in it.

Unfortunately it is run by First so instead of every 6 minutes, from observation rather than use, you regularly get 3 together and then presumably nothing for 20+ minutes

It must be as the whole thing is a white elephant. They should have something flash that they can have their photo taken by and in the years to come it can be built on. I say just lay the tracks and keep adding to it, buy the odd tram here and there and make it interchangeable with the local rail network like in Manchester so it is upgradeable. How many youhng ladds started out with a basic Hornby set and added stuff with their pocket money?

I’ve just started reading this thread so not quite up to speed -a bit like the busses.New High Quality Transport System for Leeds? What happened to the old one where busses ran to a timetable [remember them?] and were there to provide a service not a source of income for a private company. Ah, but that was in the bad old days.

I see that a trolley bus is proposed for the Headingley Lane/Otley Road rote. It'll be a dedicated lane all the way so I'm not sure why a trolley bus instead of a ordinary bus is preferred, less noisy perhaps. The route through Headingley is the same as 20 years ago, across the last bit of Headingley common, round the back of the Oak and the Arndale centre and back onto the road at Grove lane. Involves knocking down a few old properties there and a large wedge of Hyde Park Corner.

Leeds in general seems to be the poor relation compared with other cities in the Uk.Look at all the other cities that have supertrmway systems! What have we got? Guided buses and outdated bendy-buses that other cities have realized take up too much roadspace and cause major holdups. The trouble is, as has been said before London and the SE sucks up any investment or spare money for transport and we get virtually nothing! And while I@m on this rant ,How come they tell us that the Olympics in London will benefit Us ,up here in Yorkshire! what a laugh! And some people swallow this tale!

They shelved supertram, a complete tram network, cos it went a little over budget, then spent £500 MILLION on a TICKET HALL for King's Cross! Is someone taking the p155 here or what? I agree about the olympics, yes it's nice to host a major world sports event, but don't try and justify the cost to those who have no direct benefit of the games!

And cross rail is going ahead while Standing Room Only Transpennine Express gets no better. If you draw a circle centred on Saddleworth Moor that takes in Leeds and Manchester, you realise ho poor the connections between the towns in that circle is, let alone within the towns.

Lets not forget HS1 and the olympic village service from St Pancras on those new Hitachi trains. The new Thameslink as well.
