Not wanting to wander too far off topic but that that brought a smile to my face Ravey.Brings back memories of doing combined North west and North east 7 day rovers which basically allowed you unlimited rail travel over the North of England.A friend was travelling on these rovers with us and decided for a bit of fun to see how far he could get by flashing his bus only metro card at the grippers, when anything was said he would reply "oops, sorry mate" and then produce the correct ticket.Hard to believe ( or maybe not ) but he actually got down to Crewe via Man pic, out to Holyhead and back twice and up to Carlisle before he was questioned on the Carlisle - Leeds by a Leeds gripper. One lad who came out with us on an infrequent basis actually bought a North East rover by accident when he was intending bashing the North Wales coast all week ( you could use the North west rover from Leeds ) and spent three days oblivious to his mistake until one of us pointed it out to him, his bottle went and he headed home and spent the rest of the week bashing HST's on the East Coast to Newcastle lol.I think it was really down to the guards being faced with an ever increasing variety of tickets and passes that we got away with as much as we did.

There may have been some delays to buses in the centre of Leeds today (Aug 18 2012) due to a massive crane taking up most of the width of Boar Lane at the Trinity Project and there were temporary traffic lights in use. As a result there was also a temporary bus stop on Duncan Street for those who would have normally got a bus on Boar Lane. The photo shows the temporary bus stop sign which seemed to me more like a London bus stop sign, which made me wonder if this now the normal First Bus temporary bus stop sign in Leeds.PS. It was much busier than it seems in the photo. That was a chance moment with few people and traffic directly in view.

Interesting that Leodian,                                 just glad I didn't venture into town today(why do we always say "town"....even in Kes,young Billy Casper says he's off into t'city ! .....Barnsley ! )....to trawl round Leeds Market and around Boar Lane area.Never seen that sign before o/s London.

The superb new A65 Quality bus corridor scheme on Kirkstall Road came into operation on Wednesday. I have the greatest admiration for all concerned in this massive project which has, I believe, been completed on time and on budget to all intents and purposes. The landscaping is brilliant, and to read on the Metro site some of the astonishing notes on what's been involved is quite amazing. It is envisaged that journey times will be reduced by up to six minutes - I am quite certain that the improvement will be far greater than that at peak times. The midway return to normal restricted road width between Burley Mills (Haddon area) and Rising Sun is unfortunate but totally unavoidable, and the complete scheme will bring enormous relief to passengers and bus drivers.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Hi somme1916I don't know how long the crane will be there. It is massive! I took a number of photos of it.

Two years of disruption to put a bus lane in....

More like 6 years of disruption if you include the bus lane between Hawksworth Road and Kirkstall Lane. I know there's still a couple of loose ends to tie up (not least taking away all the traffic cones) and there's supposed to be an official opening in mid September. It's difficult to judge how successful it will all be until the schools and universities reopen later next month. It looks like there's also a new offroad cycle path under construction from the Willow Road junction that looks like it will meet up the student halls around the Highland pub. There's also possible plans to build a BMX track on the Dobbie Row site between the self storage warehouse and the used car places: http://www.dig2ride.net/ and http://www.kirkstallward.net/dobbie/index.htm but I haven't seen any updates more recently than early last year. The land isn't suitable for anything more substantial because there's a weak sewer underneath. Whether anything comes of it remains to be seen.
