The Leeds City Transport and Metro (1974 - 1986) route network has changed out of all recognition - over and over again in fact - since the privatisation/de-regulation/competition farce was launched (or should that read "escaped from the cage") in October 1986 Yes Davey, the 65 did used to go to Pudsey from Central Bus Station - and was worked out of Bramley depot. At one time the famous batch of sixty "live clutch and gearbox" Leyland PD2s were to be seen on there and other Bramley routes such as 23 Intake, 54 Rodley - Halton Moor, 77 Gipton - Bramley Town End, 14 Half Mile Lane, 72 Bradford etc etc.

There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

I would like to have chatted with them further but they were leaving the fair early on Monday morning because of rain and I only got 5 minutes with them as they were setting off . They were kind enough to wait a couple of minutes for me to have a look inside and upstairs. In an earlier post someone was asking about the limited switch in the drivers cab. You can clearly see the limited sign which is the white panel under on the photo of the front of the bus ( alongside the cab and under the 5 ).I know that the bus is privately owned but i don't know where it is based. It is in pristine condition. Someone must have a big garage!

It used to be said that the statue of the Black Prince had been placed in City Square , near the station, pointing South to tell all the southerners who've just got off the train to b****r off back down south!

Yes I think its a red light , or possibly a red reflector, but i don't know what its for. Its not a high level brake light. If I had to guess I'd say it might come on when the limited sign on the front is illuminated. So when the bus sails past you without stopping you know from the red light that you couldn't get on anyway. That's just my guess over to Blakey for the real answer.

Yes folks, the "little round thing" was just simply an extra tail light which came on with the side and tail lamps. Sorry to "shoot down" those other interesting theories I'm pretty certain that the light was a standard fitting (and a very wise one for the sake of a few bob when new) at that period by Charles H. Roe, rather than being specified by LCT.
