As I'm sure Blakey will confirm, a driver shouldn't be setting off before the due time of departure. It might be frustrating if you're sitting on the bus waiting, but had the bus not turned up early, you would have been standing at the stop waiting for it. Same difference only warmer.

There's an old saying, and it can rarely be denied, "There's always an excuse for running late, but never for being early."Anyone who uses the 18/19/19A routes from North Leeds will be enraged by a ludicrous situation cooked up by "First." The running time allowed from Eden Drive to City Square was traditionally 15 minutes (and long ago virtually all passengers paid cash too, few passes etc) - admittedly pretty tight in busy times, but adequate at others. Now, I'm all in favour of adequate running times to enable the job to be done safely and comfortably - sadly lacking still on many routes Nationwide. The time of 15 minutes is still shown on the Metro shelter displays for Eden Drive to City Centre However what on earth "First" are thinking about I can't imagine as buses are now allowed 26 yes 26 minutes for this stage. There is also an extra timing point at Willow Road - this is where the ludicrous situation becomes all too obvious. For a start, its an extremely dangerous place for buses to stand, only yards from the cross roads on Burley Road, but even worse its now common for engines to be switched off for anything up to seven or eight minutes, causing frequent buses on services 49/50 to pass with difficulty. Who on earth cooked that one up I can't imagine but it should be sorted out at once

Worst made a faux-pas on their press release."A seven minute frequency."Any bus route with an under ten minute frequency has to have the buses replaced after 5 years. So expect these times to go to twelve minutes or more in six months. Oh and if I want to go from Leeds to Bradford by public transport, I take the train. "New ticketing system." As has been stated, what is happening to the clippies then? I can imagine it's some "Pay using your mobile." or tickets bought at a machine. 72 route renumbered 4 as programme doesn't allow any other number.FTR York 4 FTR Bristol 4 FTR Leeds 4... And the displays haven't worked for a while either as they keep crashing. No one has asked the question, "If FTR was the future, how come its replacement is a normal double decker bus!"

The incredible Mr. Alexander said in a recent press release something like "this congesion busting new service on this busy corridor will attract the eye of new customers as well as the existing ones."I can't wait to take a picnic seat and sandwiches to the Armley Gyratory or Wellington Bridge and enjoy watching the miraculous congestion busting going on - or if its too chilly in October perhaps I'll spectate from the endlessly jammed Eastgate/Headrow instead. What planet are these people on, really ?? Also on the subject of route numbers who ever thought of the barmy "spin" idea of numbering all the hybrid electric Scott Hall Road services "7" regardless of whether going to Shadwell, Alwoodley, Primley Park etc etc Oh dear

This adds to the log jam that occurs in front of the Queens courtesy of the reduction of Bishopgate Street to 2 lanes.King Street is less of a problem as it isn't blocked but again buses are discharging passengers before both the bus stop and York Place or double parked between York Place and Park Place.I'm guessing the 7a is Alwoodely and the 7s is Shadwell but as I haven't seen any 7ps then the Primly Park variety is plain 7

It would seem strange that they have unrealistic timetables with all the data gathered (or not) from the onboard GPS. Surely it would have occurred to them that journey times do vary during the day? Possibly not.As for changing the programs of the destination display, it obviously can be done, as the ex-York ones would still be displaying home ones.

I just wonder how many passengers could say, if asked without warning, what colour "LINE" their service is labelled - very very few I'll bet.Another consultancy marketing bit of tripe which seems to have vanished is "OVERGROUND" - I don't imagine that many passengers would expect their bus to reach work or home by any other means !!
