I thought it was as well, but a number of people seem to tear round the place mucking it all up.I think you are right re the plane being used for fire practise, but i think it was dragged there rather than crashed there. We need to find somone old enough to remember. My dad would have remembered but he passed away in 91. Hey Keg! Only the best for me mate! actually, screen name is a little fib! Me too!!!!!!I've had a 110 'Heritage' (Td5 engined) since December 2005, Before that I had a Discovery '50th Anniversary'Which was preceded by a 90CSW-V8 (genuine factory build!), a 110 Hard-Top (300Tdi) & a 1969 2A Light-Weight.I still regret not buying a 101FC I was offered with a 300Tdi conversion (or the Range Rover 'softdash' 300Tdi manual) Sweeeeeeeeeeet!!!!!!

Would love a FC but the defender only just goes in the garage!.Been up there this afternoon, and talking to a few blokes i know, and the general consesus was that it might have been the remains of a Vickers Vanguard.

I think I flew in a Vanguard (unless it was a Viscount) to Jersey from Leeds/Bradford in 1970.

The police do occasionally make an appearance at the other viewing point at the end of the runway, which I think is 'public' property, being part of the old road. A while ago, I drove along that bit of old road only to find my way blocked by concrete bollards at the far end. Because it's so narrow, I had to reverse all the way back! Got some funny looks from a couple of blokes sat in a 4x4.

Police visit the other viewing area cos it is a little known 'DOGGING' spot in the late evening. (Please note this info is not from personal experience)

There's always someone up there in a 4x4 though.
