Another conductors favourite bellow especially on the 67 was "all supplied now" after he'd taken the fares. Yes, I remember that. Also 'Any more fares please?' and 'Hold tight!' Ding ding! Correct me if I'm wrong but it was one ding for 'stop', two dings for 'go' and three dings for emergency stop wasn't it?

Another name which I remebered after my last posting was Benny Maddison. The strange thing here is that I met up with him at another firm, not releated to buses in the late 80's. My time with Independent was mainly spent on school work driving the ex Airport Atlantean with the registration which had the numbers 47 G.One thing I do remember is trying to turn buses round in the yard at Horsforth.

VYH 47 G Terrym - a very fine vehicle which I drove for many a mile myself. The yard at Horsforth is most difficult, and of course its worse than ever now with the length of the latest coaches. I'm sure you know that Independent has been owned since Tony's death by Thornes of Bubwith (now moved to Hemingbrough by the way).Benny Madison was a grand little chap - very pleasant. I remember that his daughter Sonia, also very tiny, passed her PSV driving test while expecting and worked for several weeks before having the baby.

Dick Speck was one of my very best colleagues even from Sammy's days, where he was a supervisor and senior coach driver. His last working days were spent as a book man at Headingley with me where I was always glad to quietly help him out. Unfortunately due to his health and the pressure of the job it was "getting to him" and he would often ask me for advice which I gave gladly.Funny you should now live at Filey, as Dick was a native of Potter Brompton just off the A64, and if you listened carefully, still had a trace of that lovely accent from the North Esat of the County.I have a lovely picture of him driving one of Sammy's Guy coaches in the beautiful Yorkshire Dales.By the way Terry, still haven't "placed" you yet - I feel a right berk !! - unless its Terry M* ****Y ??
