Talking of Arriva there was an article in yesterday's YEP where it reported that Arriva is looking for identical twins "to help promote Arriva Yorkshire's 'lovely doubly' bus offer in Dewsbury and Wakefield". A set of male and a set of female identical twins are needed for the upcoming promotion.

Following a 4 along Wellington Street this morning, I noticed that list of places served included Acomb...then as it turned a corner I also noticed "the future of transport in York" on the side of it.Have Worst displaced the withdrawn York ftr's to Leeds now? Now they don't run past our house (due to the truncated route) I rarely see them up close.Perhaps this will give them extra capacity / reliability, although I was out and about on Sunday and noticed that they has bus-tituted at least one ftr with a traditional driver operated double decker...

I daresay that just for now they are using one or two York "planes" in Leeds, but I believe most of them are parked up at present. For a good while in York they were taken off the road in the evenings and all day Sundays and OPO double deckers used instead - to save paying wages to the "customer service hosts" Aaaaargh, that's "conductors" in Sanity Land.I have heard from a member of the staff in Leeds that the infernal things are to be used on the 72 Leeds - Bradford service, terminating in Eastgate as reversing in the bus station is out of the question. I hope this is just a nightmare that I'm imagining and that he has got it wrong - 45 seats and dozens standing on a long route like that, surely they can't be THAT barmy - but of course they can. I can just foresee all the "marketing" bilge and all the expensive vynils "FLY THE STANNINGLEY LINE."

Hope you read this, Blakey.I live in Dorset (as you can see) and I've no idea what buses are used here but we've recently had some new Mercedes (MORE) buses on route. There are overhead vents and when it rains hard (as it has been doing today) the bloomin rain soddens the seats underneath.Bus fares here are so expensive..the first time (years ago) when I took a bus with my daughters into Poole and he said the fare I nearly passed out. I said, "I don't want to buy the bus!" but sadly it fell on the ears of a sour faced Poolite....I did say it tongue in cheek.Anyway, my point of this little comment is this...Is it bad design and do all vented buses do this?Is it up to the driver to close the vents during bad weather (that's if they can be closed?).My daughter has complained to Wilts and Dorset but it will fall on deaf ears but as she says, "You charge plenty for my journey so I don't expect a wet rear."

I hope this is just a nightmare that I'm imagining and that he has got it wrong - 45 seats and dozens standing on a long route like that, All true I'm afraid Blakey - its First's full intention to introduce the dis-placed York FTR's on the 72 service in the near future and, as I understand it, further reduce the gap between buses from the current 8 minute interval to 6 minutes, I guess thats how they are hoping to combat over crowding on these monstrositys. As for terminating in Eastgate, I would imagine this to be true as we witnessed First attempting to trial one in the bus station several sundays ago, much to the great amusement of several drivers from an assortment of other companys the poor first driver could get the FTR to go in just about any direction except straight back when trying to reverse off stand 5 in the bus station.Although I didn't stay long enough to witness it myself I have it on good authority that the show got better when, after several attempts, he managed to park it in the lay over area reasonably between the lines only for another operators driver to park in the watering lane opposite and that resulted in the drive through area being well and truely blocked.P.S. Blakey - you should have a message from me now lol P.P.S. having technical problems but I'll get there lol

Given the frequent service there is often insufficient room for the damn things hence buses all over the place and gridlock. As for running them on the 72, well I can only say Bradford deserves them - shame they will be coming back...(PS - How will they cope with the route number on the 72? Everywhere else Worst run them they are on the number 4 route!)
