On page 13 of the Yorkshire Evening Post today (Jan 18 2013) there is a photo (taken May 11 1968 ) of a Leeds Corporation bus that had been hit by a crane. It is not the same incident with a crane seen in the photo on page 1 that was posted by Loinerpete on March 20 2007. Apolgies if the photo in today's YEP has been a previous subject in SL but I did try a search of SL and if it has been used I was not readily able to find it.

This is the guilty crane prior to it's argument with a bus. It was used on the construction of the new concrete tunnels for the Lady beck.

In the lower picture, the grey haired chap who is pointing at something is almost certainly Mr. Arnold Stone, the Chief Traffic Officer of LCT - a civil and approachable gentleman of the highest calibre who had risen through the ranks and "knew how to run a bus undertaking." Sadly he died recently aged over 90, and lived at Rawdon.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

Thanks uncle mick, Phill and Blakey for your responses to my post, which are appreciated. I notice that the date of the incident is given as May 11 and as May 14 1968 in the reports. I wonder which is the correct date? How different the area looks now without Quarry Hill flats!
