I'd like to see the vandal's face when the bus stops and 75lbs of Police Dog are dispatched in their direction.Constables in uniform travel free, so maybe more of them will be doing so in the future. PCSO's in particular are a fairly regular sight boarding buses on York Road near Killingbeck Police Station at the start of their shifts.

This is something Arriva has been running on a regular basis in West Yorkshire for about two years now, totally un-announced or publicised. The sucess rate has been quite good too, the buses don't follow one given route though ( not sure if First's version does ) but they tour the area visiting bus stations and other trouble hotspots, usually with around half a dozen police officers on board and a van in close proximity in contact via radio. The drivers that have worked these services have reported that the local scroats have never twigged until they have been pounced on by half a dozen coppers so I guess its not that obvious.P.C.S.O.s and regular police officers are allowed to travel on public transport while in uniform and it is now common place for them to do so to reach their beat area and of course return to the station for their breaks etc. What a lot of people don't realise is that off duty police officers are also allowed free travel on production of their warrent card or police I.D. but this is strictly on the understanding that should an incident occure on the bus they will come to the assistance of the driver - something I have had happen on a couple of occassions myself.
