Tong Street is another joke. From my experience, traffic volumes aside, Bradford "drivers" are a nightmare. The last time I ventured down Leeds Rd there were more duff signals; pull out and we'll try and miss you; last minute u turns and the like. Expect the unexpected. Tell me! It isn't just Leeds Road. Tong Street has just been made even more impassable by the introduction of a 2+1 lane. Guaranteed to raise road rage when the two lanes finally have to merge. Fortunately I'm able to avoid it most of the time. I always find the Leeds traffic moves better than that of Bradford.

One needs shops in which to shop! By the time Wastefield gets off its backside no-one will go there as they're used to going elsewhere. It may already be too late. We've got a good selection of bookies, loansharks, poundshops and charity shops in our city centre, though. Not to mention pawnbrokers.

just a few thoughts, leeds and bradford probably seem part of the same city to the london based daily mail, congestion? and then we have the road to belle isle narrowed to single lane and 21! speed bumps on a road where for the most part houses are set back so you could have plenty of time to stop if someone ran out, the road down past arla at stourton still a work in progress and the laughingley private sector repair funded M1 A1 link with more potholes than any estate road ive seen, i must say i couldnt fathom how a profit could be made by privatly funding road repairs, it simply never occured that the solution was NOT to repair them, doh! of course i could add the half built/non built M621/A1 link road junction, the apparently superfluous traffic lights on top of M1 junction 45, the strange restrictions on access at M1 juction 45, various "swerve" markings,( colton ,oulton) to apparently force you to sideswipe other motorists, some roundabouts where the highway code is shredded by markings forcing you to go around on the outside, do any of these planners, highway people drive? i mean for real not on some derivative of grand theft auto

I have a theory about "Planners."Their Mum is really proud that their little one got a job at the "Council."So proud in fact that she rushes out and buys them a present.1. First present a pencil with an eraser on the end.Result - Roads and buildings demolished.2. Next Christmas the excited Mum is so enthused at their offsprings promotion, down to Jowett and Sowery, for a ruler, scaled of course.Result - Roads that once meandered through busy suburbs with shops and life wiped out and a nice dual carriage way speeds past the lifeless and abandoned shops.3. Now getting a little bit more money, Mothers proud boast is that the new "Council." scheme is from her loins. So buys them a set of coloured pencils.Result - Every conceivable junction has traffic lights. Overhead and street furniture with gaudy colours telling you where to go and not to go appear everywhere!4. Overcome with the invites to the dinners with their children being recognised for inventive planning, Mother presents an engraved set of compasses. With both pencil and ink attachments and various sizes.Result - The junctions now have roundabouts, both large and small. Some in pairs. Great sweeps of roads, bypassing the now clogged straight roads.5. The telly people have turned up and this just makes this parent gush with pride. Down to the Mega-Store for a new and rare set of French Curves to reward the apple of their eye.Result - Chicanes and "Priority Lanes." On the former straight roads! Curves of such tightness and complexity, even with the garish signs, traffic lights and roundabouts, no-one seems to be able to work out where they are going.6. Finally, after years of work at the "Council." Her heart is full and tears roll down her wrinkled cheeks. The ultimate accolade, the "Council." is now under the children's control. Down to some none descript "Out of Town." shopping place. Purchases a new computer with state of the art software.Result - Lots of pictures of proposed schemes where scale has gone out of the window. Buildings made of gossamer, marble and Unicorn horn rise from the ruins of the old city. Only on the computer though. The reality being no-one needs to shop in city centres anymore. The workers are on flexi-time and 9-5 is unheard of, more 7-7! Just my theory from empirical evidence.

Have alternative methods of moving people round tHe city ever been considered? Like a covered walking pavement down the main corridors like the ones in airports eg sectioned escillators? Or chair ski lifts, like the one put over the Thames for the Olympics. There must be some merit looking at alternative modes of transport.
Is it me or has Leeds gone mad

Yes, a sky walkway around Leeds they started building in the 60's and 70's, they never finished it then knocked it all down

Let's look at this. Within the city, not that many new roads built since the horse and cart era.Public transport is so expensive it makes it cheaper to still travel by car.At my local station, depsite much house building, there has been no increase in car parking or platform capacity.During my schooldays, both Otley road and Kirkstall road were both reduced in capacity for bus lanes. The loop road creates more problems than it solves.Take all the above into account and it is no suprise we have congested roads. How are trolley buses going to help? Will they run on their own tracks? if so are these going to be newly built or run along normal roads?.
