The one in Morley was in use as a truck roof manufacturer.Everyone who comes into work seems to think our building used to be a tramshed. To the best of my knowledge it never was and it and the rounshouses stopped being used as an engine shed as long ago as 1906.

It's nowhere near the railway (useter be).I'll see if I can get a pic.
We wanted to make Leeds a better place for the future - but we're losing it. The tide is going out beneath our feet.

Indeed you are right about the Roundhay Park line. As you can see by the attached pic (courtesty of the J Soaper book "Leeds Transport") the tram lines had various different set-ups over the years which are all deatiled here. There was at no point a tram line going into the supposed tram park/ turning circle.

The trams stopped running to Morley in the 1930's after one ran away down Churwell Hill and crashed. When I was a kid the lines used to stop just after Leeds Stadium on Elland Road.

Its a bit far out but try the old Tram shed at Guiseley near White Cross roundabout which is now apartments and a gym, lovely big Leeds City Tramways in stone above what was the main door.Theres also the old substation on A65 near Kirkstall forge, also at the forge at the main entrance but behind the trees are evidence of lines but not sure if they are tramlines???
Short in arm and long in pocket, been a long time but I am making a re-appearance!!!!

Heres a picture from 1899 showing that Trams did terminate at Roundhay Park and that there were wires along the poles, although different poles from the ones seen today. You can quite clearly see the waires and the pick up in the photoSorry about the picture but I had to scan both pages and do a join.

Is this the end of the story ...or the beginning of a legend?

AHA!!!We have disagrement, there's only one way to find out, as Harry Hill says on TV....Anyway great Pic and opposite "the tram park" just down the road off Princes avenue there's an electical cabinet marked up with Leeds City Tramways (I think) behind the wooden fence in rough ground - it was pictured on here....I'm more fascinated by the unfinished Conaught Road above the tramway where the grates for the street drains are still intact.

In the early days of electric tramways very ornate poles and brackets were the order of the day as civic pride was really alive and kicking.    The early pick up arms with a single trolley wheel were prone to dewirements, and in Leeds and many places were eventually replaced by the familiar wide pantographs which were more adaptable to corners etc and had much better reliability.
There's nothing like keeping the past alive - it makes us relieved to reflect that any bad times have gone, and happy to relive all the joyful and fascinating experiences of our own and other folks' earlier days.

See the map diagrams further up the thread. The trams terminated at Roundhay Park on the original set-up from 1891. Later it was a circular route that continued up Prince's Avenue and went along Street Lane and back into town along Harrogate Road. This was not a Terminus as such - just where the tram stopped and went back again into Leeds. The "terminus" that is there now was a carpark and used the old tram poles to house lighting. Interesting re Connaught Road. This, in line with Prince's Avenue was named after Prince Arthur who came to open the park itself. I assume that it would have had villa type housing in keeping with the rest or the area though does anyone know why it was never built upon? I have never been able to find out the definitive reason, just supposition.
