We were taken from Ilkley by the School to see the exhibition, and I think we tend to forget nowadays what a fabulous period in time that was - rationing was still with us, but there was a wonderful air of confidence in a new decade after the horrors of WW2. We all went to the main car park in the middle of Ilkley - under the railway viaduct for the Skipton line, now long gone - to board four Samuel Ledgard double deckers provided by that worthy Firm at cost price. As I was by then an avid fan of the Firm this was an extra treat of the day for me, and of course I already knew each of the four Leylands and their individualities and Otley/Ilkley depot drivers like old friends. That was a most memorable outing in so many days - oh to be whisked back in time and do it all again.
