The Leeds Blimp thread set me thinking.From the Annals of Yorkshire (what a gold mine this publication is!)1786Lunardi, the first aeronaut in Britain, ascended in hisballoon, from the area of the "White Cloth Hall, in Leeds,on December 4th, and after remaining in the air aboutforty minutes, descended at Thorparch.

Another early flight1823On September 4th, Mr. W. W. Sadler ascended in hisballoon at Leeds, from the area of the Coloured ClothHall, and having been in the air about 50 minutes, andtravelled in a direct line 36 miles, he descended at SouthCliff, 11 miles west of Beverley. Next day Mr. Greenascended at Leeds, from the area of the White Cloth Hallin his large and splendid balloon, which was 107 feet incircumference, composed of 700 yards of silk, and capableof containing 136,210 gallons of gas.
