Is there a less useful travel info website than the ocuncils very own www.leedstravel.info ?Everytime I've gone to use it it has steadfastly refused to supply any details of problems on the roads and today is no different.Today we are picking relatives up at Leeds Bradford airport and taking them to their home in Ferrybridge. The normal route would be a simple down the hill to the A660 Otley Road, A6120 Outer Ring Road, A63 Selby Road and then down the old A1 (A1246 I think it is now called). However, today is Party in the Park, so traffic is almost certain to be at a standstill around the Temple Newsam area. No worries I though, I'll check out the councils own travel website. It's a council organised event so they'll have all the latest news.Sadly not. Party in the Park isn't mentioned at all, not even on the "Events in the next 3 hours" section. There is no mention at all of any congestion in the area and all the usually available CCTV traffic cams are switched off for "operational use".Going to the BBC Leeds site, not only is traffic backing up on the M1 at Jct 46 (Colton), but York Road is tailing back to the Inner Ring Road, Selby Road has all but stopped from Halton Dial and the A6120 at Crossgates and the A63 are also badly affected. All of which is to be expected on a day like today, but why isn't the councils own website publicising this? What about people who aren't aware of the Party in the Park, or who are from out of town who could have quite easily taken an alternative route if only they'd know.If the council are looking to save some money, www.leedstravel.info looks a perfect place to start.

Doors opened at 1.00 with warm ups and an official start at 2.00 so it was an historic event when you posted on here Joking aside yes it should be mentioned on the councils website but I suspect it is contracted out and being run on a skeleton staff today.Traffic news is also notoriously hard to keep up with. I think congestion on motorways is often caused by the self fulfilling prophecy of the flashing matrix. I have regularly gone through miles of speed restricting matrix and the only evidence of congestion being that caused by the concertinaing effect of the reduced speed. Also without someone the spot it is often difficult to report on. The public ring in to report delays and the media dutifully report these but nobody ever rings in to say the delay has gone.On Friday Real Radio were reporting delays on King Street due to traffic light failure. Must have been a different King Street to the one I was travelling up and the clearest I'd seen it in weeks. I've had longer delays due to HGV's insistence of parking up on Neville Street to deliver into Network Rails "arch".
