old church in bramley?

hi everyone,i used to live in bramley when i was younger and passed an old derelict church when going to see my friends. i want to go see if it is still there. all i can remember of it is:1. it is located somewhere in bramley.2. it looked quite old.3. it was located near a long path in some woods.thanks in advance.

An idea of your age at the time and the approximate year would help as a 100yards would seem a long path to a 9 year old but not a young adult. Woods in Bramley are currently pretty limited and I don't think its changed that much in my, just short of, 50 years. The woods are pretty much bounded by the canal/railway/river, Leeds-Bradford road and Pollard lane (because the other side of that is probably Rodley). With that in mind unless you were short cutting between Pollard Lane (to Horsforth) and the Leeds-Bradford Road or vice versa I can't see much reason for an A-B trip through the Woods. That said the only current major urbanisation north of the Leeds-Bradford Road in Bramley is intriguingly called St Benedicts Drive (according to Google at least) so that may be a clue which my ring bells with some of our more local members.Other "wooded" areas may include Gotts Park but that's a bit sparse and the Post Hill area but that would probably be considered Pudsey or Stanningley.Of course there is a big derelict "church" on the other side of the river but thats Kirkstall Abbey Edit 12.15 - St Benedicts may be a red herring. The "estate" was built on the site of a Catholic High School that occupied the site 1965 - 90. No mention of a church. http://tinyurl.com/648y4qt

I can think of one that could fit the bill and that was the old St Margarets that was situated on Pollard Lane near where the new changing rooms are situated just above the rugby/football picth at the side of the Fall woods .....probably fits the description.And this was still here into the mid 60's at least

Just checked on old maps and the 1934 map has it marked as St Margarets Mission. Pollard Lane...this them got closed when the new St Margarets Church got built on Newlay Lane

Just asked my husband who comes from Bramley and he said that in St Peters (Hough Lane) church yard there is/was the spire of an old church and that the church yard was pretty overgrown in those days and could be thought of as a wood if you were little.

Further up Hough Lane (heading away from Town Street) is an old grave yard ... not sure what buildings were/still are there ... may be that fits?
