The impressive deep cutting of the Hunslet branch of the NER? runs from East End Park to Knowsthorpe. Can any railway buff tell me why the track is still in place and seemingly maintained from the Park to cross green although it comes to a stop where the Hunslet goods yard was.

It used to be for the Leeds oil refinery, I think that closed down several years ago (I think there was a daily train down there)There was also a siding for the Tarmac concrete complex, that doesn't seem to have been used for many years. The line is still in use for the roadstone facility down there (I'm not sure if it's the Tilcon that used to be on Marsh lane)Trains still use the line.I have a pic of the headshunt to the river, trains haven't ventured that far down for years.

The line runs from the quarries to Skipton, to join the main line.Just before Skipton the line from the Embsay Steam Railway joins it.The limestone used to be processed at a much smaller plant in the old Marsh Ln. goods yard.
