Beeston Tin Mines ?.

As a relatively new member I wonder A. if this is the correct place for this subject and B. is it has been discussed before. "Beeston area Tin Mines" Help.

hi i'm more new than you so no idea if its been discussed before sorry. I do know Beeston quite well though, do you know where in Beeston they were located or the entrance? I've never heard of tin mines though but i'm still a young un and want to learn

No tin mines in Beeston.

No jam butty mines either....

It's riddled with coil oil's though.

I have obviously been given duff information and as Parksider says the 'oiles are from coal excavations, though most have been filled in. I lived there there when a couple of serious lots of subsidence happened

There was once a Leeds tin mine - in Cornwall - and a Beeston tin working, in Beeston, Cheshire. Perhaps misunderstandings in someone elses conversations led to the stories.

Alas the geology is all wrong for tin in that part of Yorkshire. Tin deposition is related to hydrothermal deposition from an underlying granite formation. It's similar to that for lead (in which areas in the Dales have granite under the limestone) so none here in the Coal Measures which have Millstone Grit underlying them.

Thanks for that info. I remember reading about mining in the Middleton area (Not Broom Pit) in the 1800s when a company could sink a shaft for coal and did not have to register this with the authorities, hence 'oles all over the place. in Beeston they must have just extracted coal from near the surface.
Guess someone will fill in with more deails, hopefully.

Look up the old ordanance survey maps and they will show where the mines were.

There are traces but hard to find and recognise.......
