i was always lead to believe, that the tunnels have been there for a hell of a long time, and were used for the movement of livestock to various slaughter houses(fish street is one) so as to avoid traffic cogestion, especially on cloth market days??? any truth in that??

Perhaps another Leeds Urban Myth, but I remember hearing once form a old (and I mean old) guy who was doing security at St Pauls House that the tunnes went from City Sq as a kind of underground railway to deliver post from the old GPO building. I doubt there is any truth in it but heigh ho, another one for the board.

I only said it to wind you lot up. Haha! Still, I know plenty of people who worked at the Underground, which was below the T&C, who said you could see the entrance to tunnels going from there. I think the guesswork came from them saying where they went TO...Does anyone know the owner of Creation? We could ask them if they will let us have a look?

I can't believe no one replied to this message. It is one of the most incredible pictures i've ever seen. Typical of Leeds to plan something (at great expense no doubt) and for it not to happen. Good to see that things never change in this fair city of ours. When anything is actually built it is never done properly, the city station upgrade whilst well done woefully underestimated the traffic it would need to cope with. That LandMark Leeds shopping precinct has been a complete shambles as reported in the Hiney Ho. I can't wear perfectly normal leather soled shoes as I can't walk on many of the main shopping streets.Build a coach station? OK but only a tiny one eh. Concert venue? No mate, let Sheffield and Manchester have that money.Trams? Not econimically viable. It was in Nottingham, Sheffield, Liverpool, Manchester, Bristol, Croydon, etc....but not in Leeds. Here have some new bendy buses and shut up.So it seems we could have had a nice underground station but nah, it's Leeds, it was never going to happen.
