Mill Goit exposed

For the first time since it was built the Mill Goit has been exposed.
It led to Kings Mill and various other mills which lay in the Isle of Cinder.

Thanks buffaloskinner for that fascinating photo and information. I have walked by the area recently on Bishopgate Street and wondered what was behind the security fencing.

Thanks again buffaloskinner for that as I would likely not have known about the exposure of the old Mill Goit. Hoping to see from street level I went to the area yesterday (November 28 2023) but the work was hard to see and extremely difficult to get good photos. The following are 3 (rather poor quality and reduced in size) photos that I took from New Station Street. Though hard to see in the first photo an enlargement of the original shows a sealed off arch feature on its right that is presumably where the water started to run under Bishopgate Street at the School Close Bridge.

Cavernous tunnels too as it housed a couple of eateries. I'd say that is what used to be the southern end of Shabab, which also had another entrance to the north of the steps up to New Station Street. Shabab extended to the south about a decade ago because up until then the southern part was a pizzeria. The northernly part of Shabab was a Ristorante (Italian) before it became Shabab but memory fails and streetview doesn't go back far enough

It used to be Bibi's in my day, and the British Transport Police was also located under the station

Thanks buffaloskinner for that link that has two great photos of the goit. It's hard to imagine that it was still there and apparently never filled in. I wonder just how much of the goit is still there and potentially accessible beyond to where it met the River Aire.
