Melbourne certainly did supply the off-trade ;see for instance this image on Leodis;http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... LAY=FULLor this one;http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... =FULLSadly, though, I've yet to discover a surviving example - it would be a bit of a holy grail to me!Melbourne seemed to like advertising on trams such as this example;http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... FULLHere's a photo of the brewery on Regent street - where Maplins and Christopher Pratts shops now are.http://www.leodis.net/display.aspx?reso ... SPLAY=FULL

There's a Melbourne Brewery window sign inside the Rising Sun on Kirkstall Road.Have you ever seen Strattons or Strettons on your travels? There used to be a pub on Stanningley Road called the HuddersfieldArms which had that name on one of the windows. The pub is now re-named and the window proberbly long gone.

Thanks for that - I'll check out the rising sun - I wasn't aware of it.I do remember the Strettons (I think) sign - the pub is now the 'jug and barrel'So many of these old signs are disappearing - I remember for instance some superb ' Ramsdens Stone Trough' signs at the Brick on Tong Road that were ripped out 10-15 years ago - criminal!

My own picture of the Palace sign in close-up.This is fantastic , but it must have been restored at some stage - its too pristine to be 50 or more years old. Whoever did it did a very good job though.

This is inside the Palace - on a wooden panel To the right of the entrance at the extreme right of the building. Theres the 'Twin' of this on the other side (a 'rightie' and a 'leftie' !)I wonder if these were always in this location, which is a little tucked away or if they've been relocated at some stage . they are in brilliant condition.
